Key Concepts

Budgets and Funding

What’s changed: Your budget is now more structured.

Under the new Support at Home programme (from 1 November 2025), your support plan lists specific services you’re approved for (e.g., 10 hours of personal care, 5 hours of domestic assistance). Funds can only be spent on these approved items within government-defined service categories. Providers must deliver and report exactly what’s in your plan — no extras outside it.

Quarterly Budgets

How is my quarterly budget determined?

Your quarterly budget is allocated based on your classification level.

What does my budget allocation cover?

Your budget covers multiple service types including care management, clinical care, personal care, and other support services. The specific breakdown depends on your classification level and individual needs.

Unspent Funds and Rollovers

What happens to my unspent funds from old packages?

Unspent funds from old packages carry over and must be used first for extras like assistive technology and home modifications (for example, shower chairs or other equipment).

Is there a limit to how much I can roll over?

Yes, the maximum rollover per quarter is $1,000 (or 10% of your budget).

Contributions and Costs

How much will I need to contribute toward my care?

Contributions are means-tested. Full pensioners will pay a contribution toward some services that they use.  Self-funded retirees may contribute more for their services.

What does “grandfathered clients” mean?

Grandfathered clients are those who were already receiving services before September 12, 2025. These clients may be protected under a “no worse off” provision, ensuring their costs don’t increase unfavourably due to the new system.

Pay As You Go System

Will I be charged admin or care management fees upfront?

No, there are no more upfront admin or care management fees. These costs are now built into the service prices you pay.

What if my needs exceed my budget?

You can request a reassessment if your care needs exceed your allocated budget.

Monitoring and Support

How can I track my budget and spending?

As a Support At Home participant, you will need to have a partner, like My Way, who will assist you with the organisation of services and administration. You’ll also be able to monitor your Support At Home budget through the My Aged Care portal.

Can I get help with managing my budget?

Yes, the My Way team is available to help you with budgeting and understanding your allocations.
