If you’re part of the Support at Home programme, you might hear about everyday living help as a key way to make life at home easier and more enjoyable. Everyday living help is all about supporting you with daily tasks so you can focus on what matters most to you.
According to the Support at Home service list from the Department of Health and Aged Care, everyday living help includes services to assist with household tasks and activities to maintain or improve a person’s ability to live independently at home.
This means practical support with chores and tasks to keep your home running smoothly and your lifestyle comfortable. It’s designed to take the stress out of daily life, so you can stay independent in your own space.
Everyday living help is one part of the Support at Home programme, tailored to your needs and included in your Support Plan. It works alongside other supports like clinical care (e.g., nursing) or independence care (e.g., help with dressing).
The government’s official service list includes these specific types of everyday living help. Your care partner will help you choose what’s best for you:
Help with vacuuming, dusting, or tidying your home to keep it neat and cosy.
Assistance with mowing lawns, weeding, or light garden maintenance to keep your outdoor space looking great.
Support with grocery shopping or running errands, either with you or on your behalf.
Help with cooking meals or preparing food to suit your tastes and dietary needs.
Assistance with washing, ironing, or changing bed linens to keep things fresh.
Minor tasks like changing light bulbs or small repairs (not major modifications – those are separate).
These services are funded through your quarterly budget, based on your assessed needs. You’ll only pay a means-tested contribution, making it affordable and fair.
Everyday living help is like having a friendly hand to make your day-to-day life easier and more comfortable!
